Sheep of Decatur
Documentary Short This short film focuses on the flock of feral sheep that inhabit a small island in the Northern Puget Sound. With no natural predators on the island, the flock has been able to sustain itself free from human intervention for most of the 20th century. Many of their domesticated characteristics – long fleeces and tails – have not yet been naturally selected out of the gene pool, leaving the animals in generally unhealthy condition. Starting in the early eighties the residents of the island took it upon themselves to round up the herd and provide a yearly shearing. This film takes place during their 30th annual shearing day.
